Expertise
“Expertise” is a shinny and a bit arrogant word I am not entirely comfortable with. So let me explain how I define it.
For me, expertise is first about reaching a deep level of competencies in one field, like marketing. Nevertheless, it is not enough. It is also about remaining curious about a subject and, therefore, being an eternal learner and tester. In addition, I do think that an expert constantly builds a network of peers and reliable resources to go further in his thoughts and find solutions. Having expertise means joining the dots, identifying trends, keeping the “big picture” in mind, too, so the strategy and business part. In my mind, an expert is connected and supporting others: his mission is to show the path to others and help them do their work smarter. He has a role model. Finally, an expert is a professional with a particular mindset that moves mountains.
